Senator Perpetual Calendar

Art and precision engineering

German technology and manufacturing enjoy a worldwide reputation for excellence. Master watchmakers in Glashütte, Saxony, have contributed to this reputation since 1845, designing and building precision mechanical timepieces that represent the finest in watchmaking traditions.

A proud heir to this tradition, Glashütte Original makes exquisite mechanical watches with a distinguished, unmistakably German look and feel. The Senator Perpetual Calendar  is a superb example.

The Perpetual Calendar is a highlight of the watchmaking art, automatically recognising leap years and the lengths of months. If it is worn regularly, it will never need to be adjusted during the wear's life.

Until March 1, 2100, the day, date, month, year, and leap year will be shown precisely, for only in 2100 does the next secular year of the Gregorian calendar come about with its irregularity: although this year should by rights be a leap year, there will be no February 29.

All Senator Perpetual Calendar displays are arranged to form a clear, harmonious balance, and are easily read through the antireflective sapphire crystal.

The day, month and compelling Glashütte Original Panorama Date display shows either white or black numerals against the ground.

A discreet, unambiguous leap year display presents a red dot to indicate a leap year, followed by yellow, black and white dots for successive years.

On the black dial versions, the phases of the moon are revealed by a black disk adorned with silver stars and a radiant silver moon, while the timekeepers outfitted with a warm silver dial show a silver moon on a blue disk.

The automatic calibre 100-02 , a superb 28,800 vph automatic movement featuring a screw balance with 18 weighted gold screws and a power reserve of more than 55 hours (+/- 10%).

Its reset mechanism allows easy synchronization of the second hand with a time standard. Unlike other reset mechanisms, the second hand is connected neither to the winding stem nor the crown.

As a result, when the crown is pulled out, the balance remains in oscillation and the movement continues to run, significantly reducing material stress. Pressing a separate button on the side of the case at 8 o'clock activates the reset mechanism.
